Bullying in its various forms is one of the new emerging problems that many children and teenagers have to face daily at school or while practicing extracurricular activities away from their parents’ view and protection.
Bullying is becoming an increasingly important problem for parents, school administrators and teachers, and it affects our society at large.
Bullying is not only physical, but it can also disrupt a person’s emotional life through mobbing and cyberbullying which is its worst form. In fact, cyberbullying is a terrible weapon that can destroy someone’s reputation and life for good in no time. That is why cyberbullying may have serious implications, even legal ones, for those who practice it.
This paper will present facts about bullying and its effect on youth, and will provide some possible solutions to the problem.
Argumentative Essay: Solution for Bullying
Bullying is a big problem for children and young people that go through it. It knocks their self-esteem and makes them lose their confidence, and can make them dread going to school each day. In extreme cases, young people can become suicidal as a result of bullying, while in other very serious cases, it can get out of hand and lead to the bully murdering their victim. It’s also a huge problem for parents and teachers, because stopping bullying is a hard task and they often don’t know the best ways to go about it. There are three key elements to stopping bullying: educating the bullies, imposing greater sanctions for the bullies, and protecting the victim.
The reason that bullies must be educated is that many of them are not aware of exactly how much they are hurting their victim. In serious cases, it is probably wholly deliberate, but even then, most bullies wouldn’t want their victim to become as suicidal as they have made them. Bullying can come in all sorts of forms and one that affects girls in particular is a group of so-called friends excluding them from everything. In cases like these, if the bullies understood that they had become bullies picking on a victim, they may think twice.
The second way to deal with the bullies is to punish them. This could be the only thing that works for incredibly nasty people, because they will only care when it begins to affect them. Bullying often isn’t taken seriously enough; for example, if you punched a person in the middle of the street you would probably be arrested, but if it happens in a case of bullying, the perpetrator might get a detention. It is important not to allow things to happen in school that they would never get away with out in the real world, and children and young people who don’t have boundaries and sanctions imposed as they grow up may not obey the law as adults.
The final main way to deal with bullying involves working with the victim. Victims of bullying need to know their self-worth so that they don’t just accept what’s happening to them, and need to be taught to be assertive without just being aggressive. They should also be taught that self-defence is allowed when necessary, and should not be punished for it, while it is very important that adults always listen to them and take their concerns very seriously.
All in all, there is no one single solution for bullying, but it’s not good enough to ignore it just because it’s hard to deal with. By using a combination of these three tactics, teachers should be able to stop bullying at school long before it gets out of hand.
A study on bullying
Children stay home from school every day because they have a fear of being bullied. “School bullying is a negative phenomenon that affects the life of numerous students worldwide” (Tsiantis et al. 243). Bullying in schools is quite common in today’s society, and most people do not understand the mental and physical harm it can cause. In a study conducted by Ziv and Dolev, “awareness surrounding the problem of bullying in schools and the negative consequences associated with it has steadily increased and is now widely acknowledged as a problem in many countries around the world” (83). There are both short and long-term effects to the victim, as well as to the bullies themselves. Bullying is caused for numerous reasons; however, there are ways to decrease and possibly eliminate bullying altogether.
According to Olweus and Rigby, “School bullying refers to violent and aggressive behaviors that are manifested by students in an intentional repetitive manner and aiming at producing physical or psychological pain to other students inside or outside school grounds” (qtd. in Tsiantis 244). There are many different types of bullying: physical, verbal, indirect, and cyber-bullying. Physical bullying can include pushing, shoving, or fighting and when a student is hit, kicked and threatened (Charmaraman 439). Verbal bullying is defined by excessive name calling and teasing by individuals toward another. Indirect bullying is when rumors are spread behind one’s back, and even though it is not directly done to the victim, he or she is still affected by the outcome. Finally, there is cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is harassing and hurtful information posted on the World Wide Web, which is more frequently shown on social networking sites for everyone to see. Cyber-bullying includes gossip, rumors, or inappropriate pictures being posted. Wendy Craig said in an interview, “by having such a fast speed of transmission, by being so far-reaching, by being so public, by being never ending, creates huge psychological impacts that are devastating to people who experience it” (qtd. in Hamilton A10).
Charmaraman states, “The US Department of Education Office of Civil Rights clarified the often intertwined concepts of bullying and sexual harassment. Bullying is a form of harassment (439). Many times the predators are young males harassing their female classmates. In reality, bullying and sexual harassment does not discriminate on gender. Both males and females commit these hideous actions toward others, not realizing the negative impact it has. Young women who are bullied and harassed on a daily basis have self-esteem and insecurity issues within themselves. In a single question interview with a close friend, Angie, she explained how bullying and harassment affected her during her high school years:
I felt like I was a piece of garbage that people looked at with disgust. Every day I was humiliated in public by these guys who would ma
bully prevention in school
In today’s society bullying influences thousands of people a day. Children fear going to school due to the physical and emotional pain they receive throughout the day. Bullying leads to teenage problems like depression, suicide and other long term problems.
Being bullied every day for years can cause unbelievable trauma to the young minds. After being bullied, as kids grow up they begin to lose trust in people and begin to distance themselves from the outside world. Bullying can be committed even outside the school setting. Cyber-bullying can cause much worse damage than being bullied in person. Sometimes cyber-bullies hide their identity and cause pain to others for the thrill of it. Children begin to not trust each other because the world has turn into a place for hate and loneliness. People go out of their ways to cause trauma to those around them and people who trusted them. Bullying in schools is a serious issue that school officials need to take with caution. There are many types of bullying; there is physical abuse, taunting, and exclusion of activities. There are endless ways to bully an individual. Those being bullied then feel inadequate and isolated. Bullies will begin to put their hardships on others to relieve the pain on them. Others bully due to a sexual preference, race, weight, appearance or intelligence. Having troubles at home can cause children to go to school and take out their frustrations on others. Bullies may not have any reasoning at all. Bullying needs to be controlled and stopped.
An epidemic has been created across schools everywhere, and this outbreak is bullying. Each child that gets bullied has a greater risk of having low levels of self-confidence, anxiety, and depression. Being bullied can cause astonishing amounts of trauma and can lead to suicide. Bullying is an issue in today’s society that will always be prevalent. Bullies will always be bullies but victims don’t always have to be victims. N...
the article “Why Our Approach to Bullying Is Bad,” published in Independent School in Winter 2013, Susan Porter discusses that bullying is naturally inclined to occur, and it is almost impossible to get rid of it, but it can be limited. Porter takes a different approach and explains that bullying occurs because of preadolescent and adolescent brains, which are not fully developed. This means that adolescents are not able to fully control themselves, which can cause bullying. Porter describes that brains at an adolescents age are “prone to misinterpreting facial cues” and “tend to respond very emotionally to social situations.” With both of these aspects, it can cause the child to not be able to handle themselves in certain situations, causing them to lash out or take things too personally. To manage the bullying situation,
bully cause and effect
Approximately 160,000 kids miss school each day due to being bullied. There are many causes for bullying; for example, someone wanting to fit in may act as a bully to others in front of his or her peers because he or she thinks that it is "cool to bully. Wanting to be in control of or having power over someone is another common reason one becomes a bully. With the advancement in technology come new chances and opportunity for bullying. Bullying has moved past the face to face heckling of the past and on to wireless bullying known as cyber bullying. Just as the reasons for bullying are endless, so are the effects of bullying. Three of the biggest, reoccurring effects that come from being bullied are depression, substance abuse, and suicide, among many others.
Depression is a psychological effect that can be brought on from a number of different scenarios. However, bullying is a leading cause of depression in all ages of people. Bullying can occur at any age, and not just in the classroom like it was thought for so long. If bullied during adolescence, that individual is at a greater risk to fall into deep depression, which could last with them for the rest of their life if not treated. For this reason, a number of anti-depressants have been created to try and deal with it head on. There have been no treatments found that can fully cure the state of depression. As a result, it can also cause one to look to other coping methods to try and escape their feelings of sadness and worthlessness. For example, one may be tempted to turn to different combinations of drugs and alcohol as a way to numb them from the real world, leading to substance abuse.
Substance abuse is a main coping method associated with the victims of bullying. It is used as a way for some to close out the world around them, a world they feel is always kicking them when their down and singling them out for being different. A large percentage of substance abusers have sited...

Every day, approximately 160,000 teens skip school because of bullying (Carlisle). Bullying has become a serious problem these last few years as more and more students are getting bullied in school. The number of reported bullying incidents has increased from 10% in 2008, to 30% in 2012 (Carlisle). It is affecting students’ ability to learn and their future education. Something needs to change before it gets any worse. Most people think that only the victim of bullying is the one who is being affected; however, when bullying occurs, the bystanders, the school, and the bully are all affected negatively.

Parents are a big deal with their kids being bullied. Some try to stop and make a difference, but others do not. Some parents don’t focus on their children enough, with their busy social life and work; that could be a reason why some kids commit suicide. Meanwhile the parents that take action could have some real big effects. Just like in The Bully Project when Ty Smally’s parents set up a rally for all the families that have a child being bullied (The Bully Project). If parents would actually talk to their children and understand where they are coming from, there could be a lot less suicides, run away, self harm, etcetera. The parents could set up town meetings, talk to other families that have the same situation. Then they could all become as one, face this problem, and try to stop the source. When someone does not try to take action, they never can actually know where things can go.

Patchin, Justin W. and Sameer Hinduja conducted a study to find out the chief question "Are youth more likely to engage in bullying if they experience strain?"
The authors of the study mention that bullying is a significant social issue which requires attention, examination, and response. However, it is not stated why it is important and why it is necessary to look into. Patchin and Hinduja failed to mention that bullying can affect a child's ability to do well in school, to fit in with their peers, or can even have long term effects such as depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem. We have seen numerous unfortunate situations in the news which have led children or adolescents to go as far as committing suicide to rid themselves of the pain and torture. It was hypothesized in this study that bullying would abolish any negative feelings (e.g. anger, frustration, depression, anxiousness) produced by strainful events and replace them with feelings of power and superiority, which is the reasoning behind why they choose to engage in this immoral behaviour. Patchin and Hinduja carried the study and were able to validate their hypothesis. However, there were a few implications and ways in which this study can be improved. This paper will review the research design and highlight the implications and offer potential suggestions for improvement.
